Certificates awarded to media professionals for completing training in New Media Photojournalism
Certificates were remitted to twenty-three media professionals who successfully completed a five-day training in New Media Photojournalism, today, at the Media Trust in Port-Louis. The training was facilitated by the United States (US) Embassy in collaboration with the Media Trust and aimed at endowing journalists and camerapersons with the right skills to better
perform their duties.
The Ambassador of the United States of America to the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Henry V. Jardine; the Public Affairs Officer of the US Embassy, Mr Jonathan Koehler; the Secretary of the Board of Media Trust, Mr Ashok Beeharry; and the American writer and photographer, Mrs Ricci Shryock; were present at the closing ceremony. On this occasion, the US Embassy also donated books to the Media Trust.
Addressing the participants, Ambassador Jardine underlined the prominent role of media in providing accurate and timely information to the public. “The media,” he observed, “is at the frontline of preserving freedom and liberty in a Constitution.”
“Their role as a mediator is even more important in critical situations,” he said, while adding that such training platforms helped to impart the right knowledge and equip media professionals with the requisite technical skills.
As for Mr Beeharry, he was confident that the training had been fruitful and enriching for the participants and that they would be more capable in their job. Stressing the mission of the Media Trust, he indicated that the Organisation would try its best to conduct more training programmes for both journalists and camerapersons. He moreover expressed his gratitude to the US Embassy for extending valuable support and technical expertise to the Media Trust.
