Minister Hurreeram launches Vehicle Management System. The Vehicle Management System, aiming to ease access of information through an online platform on the fleet of Government’s vehicles, was launched, today, at the Henessy Park Hotel, Ebene. The Minister of National Infrastructure and Community Development, Mr Mahendranuth Sharma Hurreeram, the Minister of Public Service, Administrative and Institutional Reforms, Mr Anjiv Ramdhany and other personalities were also present. In his address, Minister Hurreeram underscored that the project will be a gamechanger for public administration as regard the management of vehicles in the public sector. He indicated that over the years, the total number of Government fleet of vehicles has increased and has reached almost 1000. Several complaints have been received in records keeping, traceability of faulty vehicles and dealing with vehicles which are involved in accidents, he highlighted. These, he added often led to a shortage of transport facilities vehicles in Ministries and Departments, creating serious inconveniences in service delivery. He pointed out that a Need Analysis was undertaken in the Financial Year 20212022, and a series of flaws were noted. Consequently, the Ministry embarked on a digital transformation initiative to improve its vehicle management process in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Service, Administrative and Institutional Reforms, through the implementation of the Vehicle Management System by way of the Sandbox framework. The System, he emphasised, will allow Ministries and Departments to input data of their vehicles from its purchase to all other information including maintenance, accidents, repair costs, fuel consumption, and disposal value, thus enabling easy and quick retrieval of any data. The Vehicle Management System is proof of Government’s commitment to modernise its system, make use of latest technology and build capacity of its human resources for the welfare of the citizens, affirmed the Minister. For his part, the Public Service Minister underlined the importance of innovative technology and its transformative impact on the public service and improved efficiency. The Vehicle Management System, he said, will be introduced on a pilot basis in four Ministries, and at a later stage implemented in all Ministries and Departments. He recalled that the DMS was the first successful project implemented under the Sandbox Framework, and expressed optimism that this pilot project will besuccessful while indicating that other developments are underway.
