Minister Gobin and High Commissioner of Australia to Mauritius reiterate intention to strengthen bilateral relations The High Commissioner of Australia to Mauritius, Ms Kate Helen Chamley, paid a courtesy call, yesterday in Port Louis, on the Attorney General, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Maneesh Gobin. During the meeting, both parties reiterated their intention to further strengthen existing bilateral relations between Mauritius and Australia. They further discussed avenues for enhanced cooperation in higher education and continuous professional development for Mauritian youths and professionals. Strengthening security of maritime routes in the region and combatting threats such as drug trafficking were on the agenda. Discussions also focused on several sectors of common interest such as blue economy, climate change, and building regional cooperation through the Indian Ocean Rim Association and the Indian Ocean Commission. Both sides expressed their commitment to giving a new thrust to regional cooperation within the Indo-Pacific context and valorise the contributions of the Mauritian diaspora in Australia by fostering people-to-people connections
